According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, clothing exports in August were US$19.09 billion, a decrease of 7.2%. 1. Exports to emerging markets such as the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa are growing rapidly
From January to August, exports to the United States still maintained a stable growth trend, with exports reaching US$23.61 billion, an increase of 8%. Exports to emerging markets such as the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa maintained good growth. Exports to the Middle East were US$9.85 billion, an increase of 10.2%; exports to Latin America were US$6.46 billion, an increase of 6.7%; exports to Africa were US$6.12 billion, an increase of 20.7%. Exports to South Korea were US$3.34 billion, an increase of 14.5%.
From January to August, exports to the EU continued to decline, with exports reaching US$27.69 billion, a decrease of 11.9%. Exports to ASEAN were US$7.15 billion, down 17.1%. Exports to Japan were US$10.8 billion, down 12.4%. The decline in exports to Russia narrowed, with exports amounting to US$4.08 billion, down 32.1%. Exports to Hong Kong were US$4.28 billion, down 26%. Exports to Australia were US$2.59 billion, down 7.6%.
2. The export volume of all major categories of clothing decreased
From January to August, woven garment exports were US$49.26 billion, down 2.4%, and export volume increased by 3.7%. Knitted garment exports were US$46.88 billion, down 11.4%, and export volume fell by 12.8%. Fur leather apparel exports were US$1.43 billion, down 18.7%, and the export volume fell by 23%. In terms of commodity materials, cotton garment exports were US$38.4 billion, down 11.6%; chemical fiber garment exports were US$44.73 billion, down 2.9%; silk garment exports were US$690 million, down 0.6%; woolen garment exports were US$2.46 billion, down 3.1%.
3. Among the top five export provinces and cities, only Guangdong maintains growth
From January to August, among the top five provinces and cities in apparel exports, Guangdong’s exports continued to grow and ranked first, with an export volume of US$25.11 billion, an increase of 13.2%. The exports of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Shanghai all declined, with the decline ranging from 3.8% to 9%, with export values ​​of US$213.1, US$159, US$11.11 and US$8.62 billion respectively. In addition, the exports of Yunnan and Qinghai grew rapidly, with an increase of 45.4% and 376.9% respectively. The exports of Heilongjiang, Tibet, Hainan, and Shanxi declined rapidly, with a decrease of more than 50%.
