According to Chinese customs statistics, from January to April, China’s textile and clothing exports to Africa were US$5.89 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.56%, which was 17.28 percentage points higher than the national textile and clothing export growth rate, accounting for 7.4% of the national textile and clothing exports. Among them, textile exports were US$3.1 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.05%; clothing exports were US$2.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 34.59%. From January to April, China exported 120 million kilograms of yarn to Africa, a year-on-year increase of 3.87%, and the export value was US$292 million, a year-on-year decrease of 3.98%. Among them, the export volume of cotton yarn grew rapidly, exporting 5,161 tons, a year-on-year increase of 23%, the export value was US$16.75 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.74%, and the average unit price was US$3.25/kg, a year-on-year decrease of 10%; chemical fiber yarn exports were 104,197 tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.74%. An increase of 4.86%, the export value was US$212 million, a year-on-year decrease of 5.23%, and the average unit price was US$2.04/kg, a year-on-year decrease of 9.62%.

From January to April, China exported 1.885 billion meters of fabrics to Africa, a year-on-year increase of 5.67%, and the export value was US$1.94 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 0.84%. Among them, cotton cloth exports were 636 million meters, a year-on-year decrease of 4.39%, and the export value was US$766 million, a year-on-year decrease of 10.13%; chemical fiber cloth exports were 973 million meters, a year-on-year increase of 11.27%, and the export value was US$829 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%.
3. Household textiles are decreasing in volume and increasing in price
From January to April, China exported US$870 million of manufactured products to Africa, a year-on-year increase of 7.52%. Among them, the export of home textiles was US$340 million, a year-on-year decrease of 2.68%, the average export price increased by 6.81% year-on-year, and the export volume decreased by 8.88% year-on-year; the export volume of industrial textile products dropped slightly, with an export value of US$133 million, a year-on-year decrease of 3.67%. The average price fell by 2.98% year-on-year. The price of other manufactured products increased significantly, with export value reaching US$252 million, a year-on-year increase of 30%, and the average price increasing by 26.8%.
4. The average price of knitted clothing has increased rapidly, and the export volume of woven clothing has increased sharply.
From January to April, China’s apparel exports to Africa were US$2.79 billion, a significant year-on-year increase of 34.59%. Among them, the export of knitted garments was 410 million pieces (sets), a year-on-year decrease of 1.78%, the export volume was US$1.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.27%, and the average price was US$2.9/piece (set), a year-on-year increase of 13.29%. Among knitted garments, the export volume and price of cotton knitted garments increased at the same time. The export volume and average unit price increased by 2.24% and 8.06% respectively, and the export volume was US$540 million. The export of woven garments was 330 million pieces (sets), a year-on-year increase of 70.65%. The export volume was US$1.31 billion, a year-on-year increase of 68.45%. The average price was US$3.96/piece (set), a year-on-year decrease of 1.29%. The export volume of cotton and chemical fiber woven garments both achieved rapid growth, with increases of 41% and 105.77% respectively.
4. Guangdong, Chongqing, and Hunan’s exports to Africa have more than doubled.
Looking at the provinces exporting to Africa, the main provinces exporting to Africa are Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian and Shandong, with the four provinces accounting for 65.4%. Some provinces have achieved rapid growth in exports to Africa, namely Guangdong, Chongqing, Hunan, Yunnan and Hubei, with year-on-year increases of 119%, 308%, 278%, 188% and 115%.
4. Exports to Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia have grown rapidly
From the perspective of export countries to Africa, South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria are China’s main export markets, with exports of US$930 million, US$800 million and US$600 million respectively, year-on-year growth of 8.14%, 4.23% and 14.45%. The three countries accounted for 40 %; countries with significant growth in exports to Africa are Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia, with exports of US$415 million, US$265 million and US$183 million respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 101%, 110% and 308%.
