Kyrgyzstan’s textile and sewing industry output declines

According to a report by Kyrgyzstan’s “Bishkek Evening News” on February 12, an official in charge of light industry from the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Kyrgyzstan revealed that the total output value of Kyrgyzstan’s textile, clothing, footwear and leather products industry in 2014 was 5.522 billion som (approximately US$103 million), a year-on-year decrease of 17.4%. Due to sanctions on Russia, the depreciation of the ruble, and the depreciation of the Kazakh tenge, Kyrgyzstan’s main export target countries for textile and sewing products have seen a decrease in orders, resulting in a decline in the output value of the textile and sewing industry, the main production capacity of Kyrgyzstan’s light industry.
