On September 12, 2014, the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning on Chinese-made “888Fashion” brand boys’ trousers. The notifying country in this case is Cyprus. These boys’ trousers are suitable for children under 4 years old. They are red plaid trousers with a red drawstring on each of the two trouser legs. The composition of the trousers is: 95% cotton, 5% spandex. The product is shown on the label. Made in Italy, clearly mislabeled. The product’s industry classification code (OECD Portal Category) is 67000000 (clothing).
These boys’ trousers may cause injury to children. The drawstrings at the trouser legs can easily trap children’s feet when wearing them, causing injuries. This product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN14682.
At present, the Cyprus authorities have taken compulsory measures to withdraw the above products from the market.
To this end, it is recommended that relevant domestic production and export enterprises attach great importance to this.
