According to a report by the New Straits Times on September 1, Noraini Ahmad, chairman of the Malaysian External Trade Development Authority (MATRADE), said that the export volume of Malaysia’s fashion industry hit a record high in 2013, reaching 19.3 billion ringgit, compared with 17.5 billion in 2012. The ringgit grew by 10.4%, accounting for 10% of Malaysia’s total exports, and is expected to continue to grow in the future.
According to MATRADE statistics, the United States, Japan, China, Turkey, and Indonesia are the top five export destinations for the Malaysian textile and apparel industry. Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom are the top five export destinations for Malaysian footwear products.
The Malaysian fashion industry includes contract manufacturing, footwear, textiles, clothing and Islamic clothing. The main reason for the growth in exports is the growing demand for Islamic clothing and the improvement of people’s consumption awareness. ??
