According to data from the Tai’an Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Shandong Province, the Tai’an area imports nearly 30,000 tons of cotton every year. However, due to widespread quality and shortage problems, external claims amounted to US$1.21 million last year.
It is understood that my country’s imported cotton mainly comes from Australia, India, the United States, Cameroon and other countries, among which Australian cotton is the main one, accounting for 40.6% of the total. Judging from the overall quality of imported cotton in 2013, substandard quality and weight are relatively common. In 2013, Tai’an District inspected 101 batches of imported cotton, totaling 29,100 tons and worth US$57.8 million. After inspection, it was found that 100 batches of imported cotton in Tai’an City had quality problems, and 73 external quality claim inspection certificates were issued. The total external claim amount was US$1.21 million, accounting for 2.1% of the total value of imported goods.
