What should you do if you encounter coated fabric that cannot be dry cleaned?

There are many types of clothes that cannot be dry cleaned, and composite fabric clothes are one of them.

So why can’t it be dry cleaned?

How to identify whether the fabric of a garment is a coated fabric?

What is coated fabric? Coated fabric is a kind of fabric treated with special technology. The coating is a mixture of rubber and resin. It can form a uniform layer of covering rubber on the surface of the fabric to achieve waterproof, windproof, breathable and other functions.

What are the current types of coated fabrics?

PA coating

Also called AC glue coating, that is, acrylic coating, it is the most common and common coating at present. A coating that can increase hand feel, wind resistance and drape after application.

PU coating

It is polyurethane coating. After coating, the fabric feels full, elastic and has a filmy feel on the surface.

Anti-down coating

It refers to the anti-down coating. After coating, it can prevent down from running away and is suitable for making down jacket fabrics. But now, any PA coating with water pressure requirements is also called anti-velvet coating.

PA white glue coating

It is to apply a layer of white acrylic resin on the surface of the fabric, which can increase the covering rate of the fabric, make it opaque and make the color of the fabric more vivid. .

PU white glue coating

It is to apply a layer of white polyurethane resin on the surface of the fabric. The function is basically the same as that of PA white glue, but the PU white glue has a fuller feel and a more textured fabric. Elasticity and better fastness.

PA silver glue coating

It is to apply a layer of silver-white glue on the surface of the fabric to make the fabric have light-shielding and radiation-proof functions. It is generally used in curtains, tents, and clothing.

PU silver glue coating

The basic functions are the same as PA silver glue coating. However, PU silver-coated fabrics have better elasticity and better fastness. For tents and other fabrics that require high water pressure, PU silver-coated fabrics are better than PA silver-coated fabrics.

Pearlescent coating

By applying a pearlescent coating to the surface of the fabric, the surface of the fabric has a pearl-like luster, which can be silver-white or colored. It makes a very beautiful costume. There are also PA pearlescent and PU pearlescent. PU pearlescent is smoother and brighter than PA pearlescent, has a better film feel, and is also known as “pearl film”.

Flame retardant coating

It uses flame retardant coating glue to coat the surface of ordinary fabrics or cotton flame retardant fabrics to achieve a certain flame retardant effect and waterproof effect. This kind of coated flame-retardant fabric is commonly used in tents and car clothing.

Why can’t coated fabrics be dry cleaned?

During the dry cleaning process, tetrachlorethylene will degrease or dissolve the coating to a certain extent, thus causing dry cleaning accidents. Most of the coated fabrics are made of polyester or nylon. They have a flat appearance and no wrinkles. Their characteristics are: impermeable and airtight. The PU-coated fabrics can be dry-cleaned with petroleum solvent.

Dry cleaning with tetrachlorethylene can cause local blistering; dark fabrics will produce light-colored strips or irregular sheet marks; some coated fabrics will also cause coating dissolution and penetration When exposed to the outside, it will feel sticky; even worse, it will harden and break when bent. Therefore, coated fabrics must be washed instead.

How to identify whether clothing is coated fabric?

Provide identification methods: its water-impermeable and air-impermeable characteristics can be used for identification. Place it on the stain removal table, put a drop of water on the fabric, turn on the suction of the stain removal table, and observe the state of the water droplets. If there is no change in the water droplets, it means the fabric is a coated fabric. If the air suction is turned on and water droplets enter the fabric, it means it is not a coated fabric. If there is no stain removal table, you can also use the mouth blowing method. If the fabric is coated, the blown air will not penetrate.

How to clean coated fabrics? Some coated fabrics will harden when cooled immediately after being exposed to heat, and will age easily over time. Therefore, coated clothing cannot be dry cleaned and can only be washed. First, soak the clothes in warm water, then use a soft-bristled brush dipped in washing powder or detergent to remove stains from heavily contaminated areas, and then hand-wash the clothes with warm water and washing powder or detergent. It is not advisable to rub hard during the washing process, and the washing time should not be too long, usually 3-5 minutes. After rinsing with warm water, wipe off the remaining water droplets on the surface of the clothes with a towel, and hang them in a ventilated place to dry in the shade away from light. After drying, use a soft brush to tidy up lint-covered clothing. This type of clothing should not be ironed and can be worn directly after drying.

Notes:

1. Do not use organic solvents, such as alcohol, gasoline, etc. These organic solvents will destroy the coating. Once the coating is damaged, the clothes will be useless. . Do not use acidic detergents, which will damage the coating.

2. Do not machine wash. High-speed rotation during machine washing and dehydration will separate the coating and the substrate.

3. Partial cleaning: Use universal foam cleaner, spray evenly on the surface of the coated clothes about 20CM away from the stained area, wait for 30 to 50 seconds, and then gently wipe the stained surface with cotton cloth. .

4. Use warm water of about 40 degrees and an appropriate amount of neutral washing powder, and soak it for about 10 minutes. Do not soak it for a long time. Then scrub gently with a soft-bristled brush, rub gently and scratch a few times.

5. Do not expose to the sun. Exposure will cause the coating to age. It is best to air dry or react.Come and bask in the sun.
