Foreign news on January 31, cotton yarn prices in southern India remained stable due to an average slowdown in demand in the textile industry.
Cotton yarn prices in Mumbai and Tiruppur remained stable as buyers remained on the sidelines ahead of the 2023/24 Union Budget.

A trader in Mumbai said: “The demand for cotton yarn is already weak, and buyers are staying away again due to the looming budget. The government proposals will affect market sentiment and prices will be affected. Impact of policy documents.”
In Mumbai, 60-count carded warp and weft yarn is sold at 1540-1570 and 1440-1490 rupees per 5 kg (excluding GST), 60-count Combed warp yarn is priced at 345-350 rupees per kilogram, 80-count carded weft yarn is 1,470-1,490 rupees per 4.5 kg, and 44/46-count carded warp yarn is 275-280 rupees per kilogram; according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, 40/41-count carded warp yarn is priced at 1,470-1,490 rupees per 4.5 kg. The price of carded warp yarn is 262-268 rupees per kilogram, and the 40/41 count combed warp yarn is priced at 290-293 rupees per kilogram.
Tiruppur cotton yarn demand is quiet. Textile industry buyers are not interested in new deals. According to traders, demand from downstream industries is likely to remain weak until temperatures pick up in mid-March, which in turn will boost demand for cotton yarn garments.
In Tiruppur, the price of 30-count combed yarn is 280-285 rupees per kg (excluding GST), 34-count combed yarn is 298-302 rupees per kg, 40-count combed yarn Combed yarn 310-315 rupees per kg. According to TexPro, 30-count carded yarn is priced at Rs 255-260 per kg, 34-count carded yarn is priced at Rs 265-270 per kg, and 40-count carded yarn is priced at Rs 270-275 per kg.
In Gujarat, cotton prices have been stable at 61,800-62,400 rupees per 356 kg since the end of last week. Farmers are still reluctant to sell their crops. Demand from the spinning industry is limited due to price differences. According to traders, cotton prices in Gujarat mandis are not volatile.
