According to a report by Bangladesh’s “Independent” on July 2, the export volume of leather and leather products from July 2018 to May 2019 was US$943.83 million, a year-on-year decrease of 5.53%. The United States has imposed a 25% tariff on Chinese leather products, resulting in a decline in China’s demand for Bangladeshi raw leather products. Rising prices in the global leather market have led leather manufacturers to switch to artificial leather, with the substitution effect leading to reduced demand for raw hides and skins.
