Vietnam’s textile and apparel industry suffers US$100 million in export losses due to power outage

According to Vietnam’s “Youth Daily”, Vu Duc Giang, general manager of Vietnam Textile Group (Vinatex), said that in the first half of the year, Vietnam’s power supply failed to meet production needs and there were frequent power outages, which damaged the exports of Vietnam’s textile and garment industry. It is estimated that Vietnam’s textile and apparel exports should reach US$5.1 billion in the first half of the year, but actual exports were only US$4.8 billion, resulting in a loss of US$300 million. Vinatex said that if each textile and clothing company had an average power outage of 6 days per month, output would drop by at least 15-20%.
