According to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh’s ready-made garments (RMG) exports increased by 35.47% in 2021/22 (July to June), reaching 42.613 billion U.S. dollars. Annual export volume is US$31.456 billion. Exports were 21.25% higher than the previous year’s target of US$35.144 billion.
The export growth of knitted garments exceeds that of woven garments. Data shows that exports of knitted garments increased by 36.88% to US$23.214 billion in 2021/22, and the export volume in the previous year was US$16.960 billion.
Compared with US$14.496 billion in 2020/21, the growth of woven garment exports slowed down in 2021/22, reaching US$19.398 billion by 33.82%.
During the survey period, home textile exports (Chapter 63, excluding 630510) also increased by 43.28% to US$1,621.93 million, with export value of US$1,132.03 million in 2020/21 .
The total exports of woven and knitted garments, clothing accessories and home textiles accounted for 84.93% of Bangladesh’s total exports in 2021/22, which was US$52.082 billion.
Bangladesh’s export value hit a record high in 2021/22. During the survey period, total exports also exceeded the US$43.5 billion target, growing 19.73%, an outstanding performance.
As of June 30, 2021, Bangladesh’s garment exports increased by 12.55% to US$31.456 billion, and the export volume in 2019/20 was US$27.949 billion.
