Bangladesh BGMEA urges government to speed up implementation of large projects

According to Bangladesh’s “Daily Sun” report on January 26, Farooq Hasan, Chairman of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), was in Dhaka on Tuesday. During the meeting, Md Monjur Hossain, secretary of the Bangladesh Bridge Department, urged the Bangladesh government to speed up the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects to stimulate the local economy and further promote exports. Farooq Hassan expects that the large-scale projects that have been implemented will greatly improve Bangladesh’s transportation situation and promote trade by reducing transportation and logistics costs. Farooq Hassan said the fashion season is getting shorter and Bangladeshi garment manufacturers are under pressure to deliver products within very strict time frames. Traffic jams on Bangladesh’s highways take up precious time from delivery times. Farooq Hasan believes that the most urgent need is to complete the construction of large-scale projects as soon as possible to eliminate existing traffic congestion on Bangladesh’s highways, especially on the Dhaka-Gazipur route. He also urged the Bangladesh government to start implementing the Dhaka-Asuria elevated expressway project after ensuring alternative roads for commuters and vehicles to use during the construction period. Farooq Hassan also called for effective measures to be taken to maintain traffic order on the highway, because random parking on the roadside, temporary shops and markets will also slow down the flow of traffic on the road.
