The price of polyester yarn has not increased this year. The rising cost has caused the price of raw materials to keep rising. However, when all raw materials are rising, one raw material has quietly doubled.
“I haven’t paid much attention to spandex recently, but in the past two days, everyone said that spandex has fallen drastically, so I asked a familiar manufacturer and they actually said that the price dropped by nearly 15,000 yuan in a month…” said a textile boss.
At this time last year, the price of spandex was skyrocketing. Taking 30D spandex as an example, it was once as high as 90,000 yuan/ton. Since the epidemic started at the end of 2020, spandex has been rising like a “hook”. You must know that before this, its price was very high. There will be few changes. The initial price of 30D spandex is only more than 30,000 yuan/ton. It’s a world of difference from today’s prices.
However, since the beginning of this year, the price of spandex has begun to fall rapidly. The current price has dropped by about 15,000 yuan/ton compared with the beginning of the year. The current price of 30D spandex is 50,000 yuan/ton. Although it cannot be compared with the lowest value, it is compared with the highest price. It has already dropped a lot. Do you think textile people can bear such a “big ups and downs”?
Production capacity has gone up, but demand has gone down…
Since last year, due to the epidemic, the demand for other fabrics other than elastic fabrics has become less impressive in the market. Elastic fabrics have become “unique” and dominated the best-selling list in the entire market. It was also from that time that The price of spandex began to rise. Last September was also the traditional peak season of the textile market, the Golden Nine and the Silver Ten. The popularity of elastic fabrics became even more intense, and the price of spandex also skyrocketed to a peak of more than 90,000 yuan/ton (taking 30D as an example). Such a price It’s really daunting for textile bosses.
However, the skyrocketing price of spandex is not all due to demand. In fact, many manufacturers have hype factors. The number of domestic spandex manufacturers is relatively small, and they cannot be compared with raw materials such as polyester. The amount of spandex raw materials used in fabrics is relatively small. The less may be only 10%-20%. If the demand is really big, I think there is no need to insist. The price increase is not necessarily because of the demand, but maybe because of the low output. This is exactly what happened last year. Spandex production capacity began to increase, but before the increase in production capacity was completed, demand fell back, and prices suddenly came down.
This year’s textile market may be due to the epidemic. Basically, the demand for all fabrics is not good. Even the elastic fabrics that dominate the market have “disappeared.” Production capacity has increased, but demand has fallen back. Don’t look at it. The price has dropped by 15,000 yuan/ton, and the price will definitely continue to drop in the future.
Spandex is something you don’t want to stock up on!
When it comes to stocking up, common raw materials like polyester can be stocked up when they are cheap. Then when the price of raw materials increases, you can make a lot of money by selling cheap gray fabrics. The price of spandex last year was so high that most textile people did not expect it. At this time, some textile people were upset: If they knew the price would rise like this, they would stock up a little and sell it. This would make more money than selling cloth.
But the raw material spandex is really hard to stock up on!
It is important to know that if fabrics containing spandex are stored for too long, the spandex filaments will break. The spandex raw materials cannot be stored for a long time like conventional raw materials. Similarly, if the spandex filaments are stored for too long, they will not break but the quality will deteriorate. The storage conditions of spandex fabrics are relatively strict, and a series of environmental factors such as temperature and humidity must be taken into consideration. Textile bosses do not have much inventory of spandex fabrics. In addition, the amount of spandex yarn used in the fabrics is very small, so purchase on demand. There is no need to stock up.
Although crude oil prices are very high and cost factors have led to rising raw material prices, the market has entered the off-season, and the popularity of elastic fabrics will only decrease. Coupled with the increase in spandex production capacity, spandex raw materials may fall again in the future.
