In early August, cotton in various parts of Xinjiang has entered the peak boll period. In order to understand the local growth situation of new cotton, the reporter conducted a survey in Jiashi area of Xinjiang.
It is understood that the cotton planting area in Jiashi County, Xinjiang this year has decreased compared with the previous year. In order to increase the cotton planting area, the local government has cleared many pieces of land and leveled the land. Some cotton farmers have switched to wheat, causing the overall local cotton planting area to decline compared with last year.
A cotton farmer in Jiashi area of Xinjiang said that 80 acres of hand-picked cotton will be planted this year, 40 acres less than last year. Affected by rainy weather during the sowing period, cotton sowing progress was delayed, and the sowing work was not completed until the end of March.
Up to now, the height of local cotton is 80-100 centimeters, and there are about 10 peaches. The cotton farmer said that due to more favorable weather this year, the early growth of cotton was better than that of the same period last year. However, with the increase of high temperature weather in the later period, large-scale insect pests appeared in some cotton fields, mostly bollworms, which caused cotton to be affected to a certain extent. If there is no bad weather in the later period, the yield is expected to be 400-450 kg/mu, which is 50 kg/mu less than the previous forecast. Currently, the cotton farmer’s main work is weeding, watering, and fertilizing to ensure the normal growth of cotton.
