According to preliminary statistics released by the Office of Textiles and Apparel of the U.S. Department of Commerce (OTEXA), the United States imported 28.43 million square meters of knitted fabrics of category 222 from China in January 2009, an increase of 118.7% over the same period in 2008; and imported 27.34 million square meters of chemical fiber socks of category 632 from China. square meters, a year-on-year increase of 118%; imported 645 men’s pullovers were 175,000 square meters, a year-on-year increase of 213.4%. In addition, category 339 cotton women’s knitted shirts, category 345 cotton pullovers, category 348 women’s cotton pants, category 639 chemical fiber women’s knitted shirts, category 432 woolen socks and other categories increased by more than 50%. The growth in exports of some categories in January was due to factors such as the lifting of quantity restrictions in 2009 and the postponement of shipments by companies, but its trends deserve attention.
