The Bangladesh government budgeted export cash subsidies of Taka 8.5 billion (Taka 68.5 per US dollar) in fiscal year 2009. So far, Taka 2.24 billion has been allocated, including Taka 1.4 billion for clothing and Taka 332 million for leather products. However, Bangladeshi exporters believe that the amount of government subsidies is still too small to make up for the losses caused by the world financial crisis, and therefore require the government to further increase the level of subsidies. In the first half of fiscal year 2009, Bangladesh exported US$7.75 billion, a year-on-year increase of 19.38%.
