According to reports from the Russian Customs Network, the Russian Leather and Shoe Industry Federation recently requested the government to significantly increase import tariffs on various types of finished shoes from the current 10% to 25% in an open letter to Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
According to the chairman of the alliance, currently finished shoes in the Russian market mainly come from China. The import price is generally 10-14 US dollars per pair, and the retail price is generally 50-400 US dollars per pair. The current 10% import tariff will completely eliminate the business risk for importers. The current market size of finished shoes is US$10-12 billion. Since 2005, the market share of domestically produced shoes in Russia has dropped from 19% to about 10% currently. Increasing tariffs will increase the production and sales of domestic finished shoes.
