European footwear imports from China are on a downward trend

French online media quoted the latest statistics from the European Bureau of Statistics (Eurostat) as reporting that European footwear imports from China showed a downward trend in the first seven months of 2008.

According to the latest statistics from Eurostat, from January to July 2008, European footwear imports from Asia showed a downward trend from the following countries: China (down 1.7% compared with the same period in 2007), Vietnam (-1.7%), Indonesia ( -2%). The source countries showing an increasing trend include: Tunisia (+9%), Brazil (+6.9%), and India (+3.5%).

According to the report, although Europe’s imports of footwear products from China showed a downward trend in the first seven months of 2008, China is still the largest source of footwear products in Europe. Europe’s footwear imports from China accounted for 45.4% of its market share, compared with Vietnam, the second largest source country, accounts for nearly three times its market share.
