Yemen’s leather raw material exports increase significantly

According to statistics from the Agricultural Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Yemen’s leather raw material exports in 2007 were 3.29 billion riyals (about 16 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.56 billion riyals in 2006. (approximately US$12.84 million), an increase of 28%.

Most of Yemen’s leather is exported in the form of raw materials, and the added value is not reflected. The best way is to establish leather processing enterprises and make semi-finished products or finished products for export, so that relatively high returns can be obtained. Therefore, the government must increase preferential policies and encourage investment in the leather processing industry to generate good economic benefits and provide many employment opportunities. Since Yemen does not have a large-scale leather processing industry, nearly 1/2 of the cattle, sheep, donkey skins, etc. are thrown away in the slaughterhouse.
