French clothing and apparel sales plummet

Data released by the French Fashion Institute show that in August 2008, French clothing and apparel sales fell 9.2% compared with the same period in 2007; in the first eight months of 2008, sales of clothing and textiles fell 2.7% year-on-year, setting a record high in the past 15 years. Decline.

The last time the French clothing market experienced such a sluggish situation was in 1993-1994, when Europe also experienced a financial crisis.

Data show that from August 2007 to August 2008, among various sales models, only the sales of clothing and apparel in small stores increased slightly by 0.8%, while the sales of clothing and apparel in specialty stores and large supermarkets both fell by more than 6%, including online shopping. Remote sales, including street sales, also dropped sharply by 5.5%.
