Recently, I have been choosing clothes for close-fitting wear in autumn and winter. In the past, most clothes were made of cotton, but now most clothes are made of polyester fiber. I don’t know what kind of fabric this polyester fiber is and whether it is good or not. Woolen cloth?
What kind of fabric is polyester fiber?
Polyester fiber, commonly known as “polyester”. It is a synthetic fiber obtained by spinning polyester formed by the condensation polymerization of organic dibasic acid and glycol, referred to as PET fiber. It is a polymer compound and is currently the largest variety of synthetic fibers.
The main advantages and disadvantages of its fabrics are as follows:
1. Advantages
The biggest advantage of polyester fiber is its good wrinkle resistance and shape retention. It has high strength and elastic recovery ability. It is durable, wrinkle-resistant, non-ironing, non-sticky, and has very good color fastness. The fabric woven from it is not only 3 to 4 times faster than other fibers, but also crisp, It is not easy to deform and has the reputation of “no ironing”; and polyester has strong heat resistance and good chemical stability. It will not interact with weak acids, weak alkalis, and oxidants at normal temperatures.
2. Disadvantages
The disadvantage of polyester fiber is that it has extremely poor hygroscopicity, and the fabrics made of it feel stuffy and airtight when worn on the body. In addition, because the fiber surface is smooth and the cohesion between fibers is poor, areas with frequent friction are prone to fluffing and balling. However, some polyester fiber clothing fabrics have undergone special antistatic finishing. In a short period of time, such as washing 15 times, It can still be lint-free and pilling-free, but antistatic finishing has a lifespan. If it is washed more than 15 times, the effect will obviously decrease and disappear completely.
Which one is better, polyester fiber or pure cotton?
Each has its own advantages.
Both polyester fiber and pure cotton are woven into fabrics. They are made into different things and have different effects, such as:
1. The production cost of polyester fiber is lower than that of cotton.
2. Pure cotton has good breathability and is suitable for underwear.
3. Polyester fiber has bright luster, smooth feel, flatness, good elasticity, anti-wrinkle and no ironing, good light resistance, and is not breathable. It is suitable for making winter coats or jackets.
4. Pure cotton is heat and alkali resistant, hygienic and healthy, and more suitable for children.
If you combine the two materials in a certain proportion, you can learn from each other’s strengths and achieve multiple effects needed in daily life.
Are polyester clothes cheap?
Not cheap.
Although polyester fiber materials are easy to obtain and renewable, when sold as clothing materials, they are much cheaper than some natural materials, such as cotton, wool, silk, linen, velvet, etc., but they are made into clothing. It is not cheap after all. At present, 80% of many high-end fashion brand clothes are made of polyester fiber. When polyester fiber is synthesized with other materials, it can achieve good drape, good hand feel, breathability, wrinkle-free, and High-end fabric quality with features such as ease of cleaning.
Is polyester fiber harmful to children?
It is not harmful.
Polyester fiber is not suitable as the choice of children’s clothing fabrics, mainly because of its airtightness, and children’s body temperature is higher than that of adults. They love to move and are prone to sweating excessively. For example, if they often wear polyester Fiber clothes are prone to sweating and catching cold, causing eczema and other problems. It is recommended to choose clothes made of pure cotton. However, for outer jackets and cotton-padded clothes, it is more suitable to choose polyester fiber. In addition, there are breathable polyester fiber mixed with cotton. The material with good performance is also suitable for children to wear.
