  • “Ellen MacArthur Foundation” (Ellen MacArthur Foundation) announced New participants join the program, the scope of use of the guidelines is expanded, and fabric mills are allowed to join the program.

Earlier this year, Guess, OutlandDenim, ArtistMiliners, ConeDenim, and DenimExpert became the latest members of the “Jeans Redesign Guide” (JeansRedesign) program. The guidelines stipulate that jeans must be produced to meet minimum requirements for durability, material safety, recycling and traceability.

The “Jeans Redesign” program led by the “Ellen MacArthur Foundation” (Ellen MacArthur Foundation) is launched by the British circular economy charity “Creating Circularity” Created by the MakeFashionCircular initiative and launched in July. The aim is to help fashion brands and manufacturers change the way jeans are produced by tackling waste, pollution and the use of harmful substances.

The Making Circular Fashion initiative includes guidelines with the ultimate goal of ensuring jeans last longer, are easier to recycle and are environmentally friendly and manufacturing in a way that protects the health of garment workers.

In addition to announcing this new entrant, the “Ellen MacArthur Foundation” (Ellen MacArthur Foundation) has allowed denim factories to participate in the program for the first time.

In addition to complying with other relevant guidelines for “JeansRedesign”, fabric factories must also comply with the ZDHC “Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals” promoted by ZDHC Wastewater guidelines, including testing and reporting, shall not exceed 0.025 cubic meters of wastewater per yard of fabric.

The latest participants include:

(1) Brands: AteliersandRepairs, BAMBambooClothing, Blueofakind, FairblueJeans , FrankAndOak, Guess, OutlandDenim

(2) Manufacturer: ArtisticMiliners, DEMCO, DenimExpert, DenimVillage, Frontline, Soorty

“MakeFashionCircular” director Francois Souchet said: When more companies join the “Jeans Redesign Guide” (JeansRedesign) program, the industry’s desire for feasible solutions will help the transformation of the fashion industry, and the industry will focus on Extend the service life of clothes, use safe recycled materials and meet recycling production goals.

This kind of change in the scope of the industry requires the joint cooperation of enterprises in the industry. Fabric mills are critical to this transformation and we are delighted to have them join the JeansRedesign programme.

The guide builds on existing work to improve jeans production, including an open source guide created by a joint initiative between C&A and FashionForGood to develop C2C Gold Certified jeans . They were developed with input from more than 40 denim experts from academia, brands, retailers, manufacturers, collectors, sorters and NGOs. The first jeans made using the guide will be available in 2020.
