Traders said cotton yarn demand has slowed further due to purchasing uncertainty in downstream industries. The market is also going through a financial crisis as traders are unable to receive outstanding payments from buyers across the textile value chain.

Affected by the severe tropical storm “Biparjoy”, Kupang cotton trading has been suspended and is not expected to resume before next week.

Cotton yarn prices fell in Mumbai as demand slowed further. Due to weak demand in domestic and export markets, buyers have become more cautious about making new purchases. Tropical storms in Kupang and other parts of western India also dampened buyer enthusiasm. A trader in Mumbai said: “The price of cotton yarn fell because traders, stockists, and textile mills were forced to lower prices in the current market environment. Market sentiment is unlikely to improve soon.”

In Mumbai, 60-count carded warp and carded weft yarn are priced at Rs 1,450-1,480 and Rs 1,320-1,340 per 5 kg (excluding GST). Prices for 60-count combed warp yarn are 335-345 rupees per kilogram, 80-count carded weft yarn is 1400-1430 rupees per 4.5 kg, 44/46-count carded warp yarn is quoted at 264-272 rupees per kilogram, and 40/41-count carded warp yarn is quoted at 256 rupees per kilogram. -264 rupees, 40/41 count combed warp yarn 277-282 rupees per kg.

Tiruppur cotton yarn trading is stable. However, demand from downstream industries has stagnated. The payment crisis also dampened demand for cotton yarn. A trader in Tiruppur said: “Traders, industry are not receiving payments from buyers. This is causing payments to move slowly. If a trader does not receive payment, he will be forced to stop new purchases.”

In Tiruppur, 30-count combed yarn is quoted at Rs 264-270 per kg (excluding GST), 34-count combed yarn is quoted at Rs 275-280 per kg, and 40-count combed yarn is quoted at Rs 264-270 per kg. Kilogram 285-292 rupees, 30-count carded yarn 240-245 rupees per kilogram, 34-count carded yarn 247-252 rupees per kilogram, 40-count carded yarn 250-257 rupees per kilogram.

Due to heavy rains in Kupang, trade and production activities have been suspended. Normal life and service activities have been disrupted, and many public services have been suspended. Before markets can reopen, local authorities need to clear roads and restore power supplies. This is unlikely to be completed before next Monday. Meanwhile, cotton trading activity remains at a standstill.
