The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism recently announced that although China is still Peru’s largest source of imported clothing, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Mexico have significantly increased their clothing exports to Peru. Currently, 72% of Peru’s imported textiles come from China. As new suppliers increase, Peru’s domestic textile industry will face greater pressure.
In 2014, Mexico’s clothing exports to Peru increased by 55%, Bangladesh by 43%, Vietnam by about 32%, and India by 43%. According to statistics, Peru imported a total of US$686 million in clothing in 2014, a year-on-year increase of 5%. Bangladesh and Vietnam increase apparel exports to Peru
