Textiles and garments are El Salvador’s main export industry

El Salvador’s main export market for textiles and garments is the United States, accounting for 76% of total textile and garment exports, followed by Honduras (13%) and Guatemala (4%).
The main export products are man-made fiber sweaters, with an export value of approximately US$150 million, an increase of 46% from the previous year; followed by cotton socks with an export value of US$168 million, a decrease of 8% from the previous year; and women’s underwear with an export value of US$75.91 million, an increase from the previous year. 11%.
Textiles and garments are El Salvador’s main export industry and play an important role in local employment. Last year, they provided a total of 74,502 jobs, an increase of 1,437 jobs compared with the previous year.
66% of El Salvador’s textile and garment exports come from garment factories or processors with consistent operating productivity, with an export value of US$1.582 billion, and the other 34% come from small garment processing factories, with an export value of US$821 million.
