In recent times, Keqiao District’s export inspection business to Sudan has increased significantly, with batches and goods value increasing by more than six to seven times respectively.
“This is closely related to the fact that Sudan will implement new standards for imported products starting next month.” The relevant person in charge of the Textile City Field Office of Shaoxing Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said that starting from July 1, Sudan will implement new standards for imported products. Products that meet Sudanese standards will be returned, which will have a considerable impact on Keqiao export companies.
Sudan is one of the important export countries in Keqiao District. According to statistics, from January to May this year, companies in Keqiao District handled a total of 69 batches of pre-shipment inspections of goods exported to Sudan, involving an amount of US$3.318 million, an increase of 6.6 times and 7.5 times respectively year-on-year. Among them, the pre-shipment inspection of electromechanical and light industrial commodities achieved zero breakthrough, with a total of 9 batches of exports inspected, with a value of US$220,400. The export commodities mainly include bicycles and glass tableware.
But just recently, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued a warning notice regarding Sudan’s requirement that some imported products must meet Sudanese standards. The report stated that Sudan requires that from July 1, 2015, imported products must comply with Sudanese standards, and products that do not meet Sudanese standards will be returned. “This will have an impact on Keqiao’s textile and garment, electrical machinery and other enterprises.” The person in charge of the Textile City Field Office of Shaoxing Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said that the new policy involves Keqiao’s main products exported to Sudan and involves a large number of enterprises. According to reports, Sudan has provided 449 product standards to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, mainly including chemicals, textiles, toys, children’s products and machinery and equipment.
To this end, the inspection and quarantine department reminds the majority of production enterprises and traders: they must keep in close contact with the local inspection and quarantine agencies, understand the real-time dynamics of Sudan’s new policies, strengthen the study of Sudanese standards, and ensure that goods arriving at the port after July 1 can comply with Sudanese standards. Carry out production and procurement according to standards to avoid unnecessary economic losses such as returned shipments.
