The Netherlands Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) recently released data stating that since the global financial crisis, the profits of the Dutch clothing retail industry have dropped by 66%, from 500 million euros to 150 million euros. Since 2010, the overall profit of the Dutch retail industry has dropped by 16%. According to CBS analysis, the main reason for the decline in profits of the Dutch clothing retail industry is the increase in rent and labor costs. Among the operating costs of the clothing retail industry, warehousing accounts for about 50%, personnel wages account for 20%, and rent accounts for 12.5%.
At present, there is almost no profit in the Dutch clothing retail industry. Clothing chain brands such as Etam, Promiss and HenktenHoor have all declared bankruptcy or been acquired.
