The textile and garment industry is one of the pillars of Tunisia’s industry, with a total of 1,830 companies and 175,000 jobs. It is one of Tunisia’s main industries for exporting and earning foreign exchange.
In 2013, Tunisia’s total textile import and export volume reached TUD 8.964 billion, equivalent to approximately US$5.6 billion. Among them, exports amounted to NT$5.216 billion, or approximately US$3.26 billion; imports amounted to NT3.748 billion, or approximately US$2.34 billion.
The main export market for Tunisian textiles is the EU. However, in recent years, Tunisian textiles have increasingly faced competition from similar products from Turkey, China, and other Asian countries, and are in a difficult situation.
