Saigon Economic Times reported on April 16 that Da Nang City in Vietnam recently rejected two foreign investment projects, namely a textile project from Hong Kong (investment amount of US$200 million) and a printing and dyeing project from South Korea (the project covers an area of 30 hectares). The reason is that both projects include dyeing and finishing sections, which may pollute the environment. Da Nang City proposes that in order to protect the tourism environment, the city will only absorb high-tech industrial projects, supporting industrial projects and high value-added projects.
According to reports, like Da Nang City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Hai Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and other provinces and cities have also proposed to restrict the absorption of highly polluting foreign investment projects such as textiles, shoemaking, plastics, papermaking, and rubber. At present, Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces still absorb foreign investment projects such as textile, printing and dyeing, but these projects must be built in industrial zones, and sewage discharge must meet standards.
