According to the “Cameroon Tribune” report on March 31, the “Cameroon Textile and Garment Industry Value Chain Report” commissioned by the Cameroon government and jointly completed by the World Bank and the German Development Bank, was officially released in Yaounde on the 27th. The report The current overall situation of Cameroon’s cotton, textile and clothing industry was introduced, and it was pointed out that Cameroon’s textile and clothing industry is facing fierce competition from abroad, and currently exists and faces problems such as insufficient infrastructure, lack of industrial and management culture, and insufficient economic support measures from the Cameroon government. , and proposed a development strategy for the complete industrial chain of Cameroon’s cotton, textile and clothing industry, including increasing the local processing rate and added value of cotton, developing a large-scale garment export industry, and improving the competitiveness of Cameroon’s light industry manufacturing industry.
According to the report, Cameroon is currently the fifth largest cotton producer in Africa. Its annual cotton output is approximately 110,000 tons, but its cotton processing rate is only 2%.
