The Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine Department revealed on February 27 that the volume and price of imported cotton at Guangdong ports fell in 2014. The Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine Department inspected a total of 357 batches of imported cotton, with an import weight of 1.013 billion tons and a value of US$210 million, which was the same as in 2013. Compared with the same period last year, the import volume decreased by 53% and the value of goods decreased by 50%. The decline in import volume was the largest decline of more than 50% for the first time since 2009.

Brazilian cotton and Australian cotton each accounted for 5%. M grade is the main grade of cotton imported in 2014. There are 66 batches of cotton above M grade, accounting for 67% of the total imported batches. The import trade methods are mainly general trade and processing with imported materials, with a small amount of processing with supplied materials.
