Indonesia’s textile industry relies on imported raw materials

According to reports, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry stated that Indonesia’s annual textile exports in 2014 reached approximately 156 trillion rupiah, making it one of the largest textile exporters in Asia. However, because the required raw materials such as cotton, dyes, and printing and dyeing auxiliaries are almost completely dependent on imports, As a result, the amount of imported textile raw materials reached 96 trillion dong. Officials from the Ministry of Industry said that in the future, the textile industry sector must immediately find solutions to the import of textile machinery and raw materials to reduce dependence on imports. Indonesia’s climate is not suitable for growing cotton, so cotton demand cannot avoid imports from abroad.
