According to a report by Mexico’s “Economist” on January 14, the Mexican textile and apparel industry and the Mexican Tax Administration have reached an agreement to establish restrictions similar to those for footwear imports from third countries, especially from Asia. Special customs measures are imposed on textile and apparel products to support the growth of legitimate trade and protect domestic industries.
Mendoza, chairman of the Textile and Garment Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Jalisco, Mexico, said that starting from February 1, customs, taxation and industrial policies for textile and clothing products will take effect to provide support for the industry to deal with illegal imports.
