On December 9, 2014, Health Canada and Attraction announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made boys’ sweatshirts.
The recalled product is a boys’ baseball shirt with a drawstring at the front of the neck. The reason for the recall is that the drawstrings on the sweatshirts may get stuck on amusement equipment, fences and other objects, causing suffocation, and may also get stuck on cars, posing a risk of dragging children. The recalled products were sold in the Canadian market from January 2014 to November 17, 2014, with a total sales volume of approximately 1,977 units in Canada. To date, no reports of dangers from product use have been received. Health Canada advises consumers to remove drawstrings from sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard.
