According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan’s textile and apparel exports reached US$8.8 billion in the first eight months of this fiscal year (July 2017 to February 2018), an increase of 7.17% from US$8.2 billion in the same period last year. The main growth comes from high value-added textiles. Exports of ready-made garments increased by 13.08%, exports of knitted clothing increased by 13.3%, and exports of bedding increased by 4.51%.
In the first eight months of this fiscal year, Pakistan’s cotton product exports (excluding towels) increased by 7.32%, art products, silk, and synthetic fiber textile exports increased by 80.08%, cotton yarn exports increased by 1.87%, and cotton cloth exports increased by 0.04%. Carding exports fell by 97.87%.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce stated that the increase in textile and apparel exports benefited from the government’s active export policies and other incentive measures. At the same time, the increase in international market demand and the decline in the rupee exchange rate will also enable textile and apparel exports to continue to maintain a good momentum in the coming months.
