Vietnam’s textile industry plans to increase the proportion of ODM and OBM

According to a recent report by Vietnam’s “Customs News”, the Vietnam Textile Association (Vitas) stated that Vietnam’s textile industry exports are increasing year by year, but only account for 4% of the world’s total textile industry imports. In 2012, Vietnam’s textile exports to the United States accounted for 7.1% of the total imports of such products in the United States, exports to Japan accounted for 5.9%, and exports to South Korea accounted for 14.2%. Currently, 70% of Vietnam’s textile export orders are OEM, 20% are purchased raw materials and exported finished products (FOB), while design production (ODM) and independent brand production (OBM) account for only 9% and 1%. Most of the products designed and manufactured (ODM) are only for the domestic market and do not meet export standards.
