According to a report by the Vietnam Economic Times on July 7, the Vietnam Textile Association (Vitas) stated that Vietnam imported approximately US$7.7 billion in textile raw and auxiliary materials in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 20.6%. Among them, imported fabrics were US$4.63 billion, an increase of 17.5%; imported other textile accessories were US$1.5 billion, an increase of 30.5%; imported cotton was US$829 million, an increase of 43.7%; imported fibers were US$749 million, an increase of 3.5%.
According to the report, in the first six months, Vietnam’s textile industry exported US$10.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18.4%, including US$9.256 billion in textile exports, US$1.77 billion in fiber exports, and US$406 million in fabric exports.
According to Vitas statistics, in the first six months, the import volume of raw and auxiliary materials required for export textile production was approximately US$5.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 23.3%. In 2014, the target of exporting textiles of US$13-13.5 billion will be achieved, and the import of raw and auxiliary materials will continue to increase in the second half of the year.
