From January to May 2015, the national fabric import and export volume was US$24.244 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.27%. Among them, the export value was US$21.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.27%, and the export volume was 14.736 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 3%. The average export unit price was 1.45 yuan/meter, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. The import value was US$2.943 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7.74%.
1. Fabric exports grew steadily in May
In May 2014, national fabric exports maintained steady growth. The export value of fabrics was US$5.241 billion, setting a new high in single-month export value this year, with a year-on-year increase of 8.54%.
2. Exports to major markets continued to grow
From January to May 2015, exports to Asia were US$13.603 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.69%, of which exports to Pakistan, Cambodia and Vietnam increased by 45.22%, 21.35% and 15.11% respectively. Exports to the EU increased by 16.47% year-on-year, of which exports to Spain, the United Kingdom and Germany increased by 35.9%, 33.58% and 17.94% respectively. Exports to Africa increased by 13.03% year-on-year, of which exports to Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria increased by 20.24%, 19.43% and 18.87% respectively. Exports to Latin America increased by 8.68% year-on-year, of which exports to Colombia, Nicaragua and Mexico increased by 45.43%, 29.2% and 16.08% respectively.
3. Fabric export growth in major provinces and cities
From January to May 2015, a total of 31 provinces and cities across the country exported fabrics, and exports fell in 11 provinces and cities. The export value of Zhejiang and Jiangsu on the southeast coast increased by 12.68% and 10.48% respectively year-on-year, while Fujian’s export value fell by 32.77% year-on-year. The export value of Guangxi, Ningxia, Jiangxi and Gansu in other regions increased by 323%, 121%, 60.04% and 47.47% respectively year-on-year.
4. The average export price of fabrics increased slightly
The average fabric export price from January to May 2015 was US$1.45/meter, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. The average fabric export price to Asia was US$1.6/meter, a year-on-year increase of 3.98%; of which, Vietnam, India, South Korea and Pakistan increased by 21.16%, 15.55%, 9.09% and 8.98% year-on-year respectively. The average price of fabric exports to Africa and Latin America increased by 1.53% and 1.19% year-on-year respectively. For the European Union, it fell by 2.61% year-on-year.
The average fabric export prices in Jiangxi, Chongqing and Guangxi increased by 97.84%, 67.2% and 35.41% respectively year-on-year, while the average fabric export prices in Tianjin and Guizhou decreased by 18.26% and 16.55% respectively year-on-year.
The average export prices of woolen fabrics, cotton fabrics and chemical fiber fabrics increased by 4.96%, 4.7% and 3.78% respectively year-on-year.
Overcoming the impact of the holidays in the first quarter, fabric exports entered the track of stable and orderly growth in the second quarter. The international environment is good and market demand continues to grow, which is conducive to the rapid recovery of fabric exports. Fabrics are the flagship product of China’s textile exports. Its good performance will drive the healthy development of textile and apparel exports.

1. Exports of products subject to Turkish safeguard measures from January to May 2014
From January to May 2014, China’s textile and apparel exports to Turkey were US$944 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.65%, accounting for 0.88% of China’s total global textile and apparel exports, ranking 31st in China’s single export market. Among them, the export value of products under safeguard measures was US$397 million, a year-on-year increase of 17.93%, accounting for 42.06% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Turkey.
Among the products under safeguard measures, fabric exports amounted to US$210 million, a year-on-year increase of 12.95%, accounting for 52.85% of China’s total exports of products under safeguard measures to Turkey. Ranked 13th in China’s single export market, among which, the export value of products (fabrics) subject to safeguard measures was US$19.92 million, a year-on-year decrease of 34.24%, accounting for 0.98% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Indonesia.
