Bangladesh’s apparel exports to Canada increase steadily

According to statistics from the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh’s apparel exports to Canada have increased by as much as 67% in the past five years. In the 2008-09 fiscal year, Bangladesh’s apparel exports to Canada were only US$587 million, while in the 2012-13 fiscal year this figure has grown to US$980 million. In the first nine months of this fiscal year, the export value has reached US$740 million, higher than the US$727 million in the same period last year. More than 95% of Bangladesh’s exports to Canada are clothing, and Bangladesh’s exports to Canada totaled US$1.09 billion in the last fiscal year. On the other hand, according to statistics from the Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh’s imports from Canada totaled US$614 million in the last fiscal year, up from US$440 million the previous year. Bangladesh has enjoyed tariff-free exports to Canada since 2003.
