India’s apparel exports in April 2014 were US$1.3 billion, an increase of 14.33% compared with US$1.1 billion in the same period last year.
Virender Uppal, chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), said that Indian garment manufacturing also has high potential, but it needs to increase competitiveness to promote India’s garment exports. India is currently the seventh largest apparel exporter in the world, accounting for 3.2% of global exports.
