Cotton prices remained relatively stable, and the price difference between domestic and foreign cotton continued to be large. Due to the scarcity of market circulation resources, storage and imported cotton have become the main channels for textile companies to purchase raw materials, and imports remain high throughout the year. In December 2013, my country’s cotton imports increased significantly in a single month, reaching the highest level in the whole year, due to factors such as the imminent expiration of sliding tax quotas, low-grade cotton reserves, and a large number of Indian cottons on the market. According to customs statistics, my country imported 608,600 tons of cotton in December 2013, an increase of 435,500 tons from the previous month, an increase of 251.6%, and a year-on-year decrease of 14.4%; the average import price was US$2,102/ton, a 6% decrease from the previous month, but still year-on-year. up 8%.
Among the various trade modes in 2013, only processing with supplied materials and logistics goods imports in special customs supervision areas increased. All other modes declined, and general trade still accounted for the largest share. Among the average import prices of various trade methods in December, only processing with supplied materials increased by 19.37%; the average import price of general trade fell by 7.92%, processing with supplied materials fell by 4.99%, goods entering and exiting bonded supervision places fell by 6.05%, and customs Logistics goods in special supervision areas fell by 3.56%. The import volume has increased significantly, with the processing of supplied materials being the largest, and the processing of imported materials also increasing more than three times, with its share exceeding that of general trade, ranking first.
Among the main source countries of my country’s cotton imports in 2013, only India and Uzbekia experienced growth, and the growth rate was relatively large. India once again surpassed the United States to take the first place, Australia’s share remained stable, and Brazil fell sharply, accounting for only 4%. In December, India, the main source country, increased significantly, with a month-on-month increase of nearly 40 times. It returned to the first place since March. Only imports from Australia decreased, and its share fell to 7%. The United States also increased by 2 times, but its share declined. is 11%.
In December 2013, import customs were mainly concentrated in Qingdao, Shanghai and Nanjing, accounting for more than 80% of the total. The import regions are still mainly Shandong, Jiangsu and Beijing, with a total proportion of nearly 2/3.
