Raw silk is a product obtained by reeling mulberry cocoons. my country has a long history of producing raw silk. Its modern production ranks first in the world, and its export volume also ranks first in the world. Relevant statistics show that China’s annual raw silk output is more than 20,000 tons, and its export volume accounts for more than 80% of the world’s total raw silk trade. According to statistics from the Customs Information Network, my country exported 6,189 tons of raw silk in the first 11 months of 2013, down 12.5% from the same period last year (the same below); the value was US$350 million, an increase of 2.5%; the average export price was US$55.7 per kilogram, an increase of 17.2% . In the first 11 months of this year, my country’s raw silk exports showed the following characteristics:
(1) In November, the export volume of raw silk hit a six-month high, and the average export price increased year-on-year for 14 consecutive months. Since 2013, my country’s raw silk export performance has been sluggish, and the overall monthly export volume growth has shown a negative growth trend. Although the average export price continues to rise, it has not driven continued growth in export volume. After experiencing four consecutive months of negative growth in the second half of the year, export volume began to turn around in November, achieving positive growth for the first time. In November, my country exported 651.6 tons of raw silk, an increase of 30.2%; the value was US$37.114 million, an increase of 45.2%; the average export price continued to maintain a growth trend, reaching US$57 per kilogram, an increase of 11.5%, achieving positive growth for the 14th consecutive month.

(2) General trade methods absolutely dominate exports. In the first 11 months of 2013, my country exported 6,113.9 tons of raw silk through general trade, a decrease of 11.9%, accounting for 98.8% of my country’s total raw silk exports during the same period; it exported 735,000 tons of raw silk through small border trade, a decrease of 15.6%, accounting for 1.2%. %.
(3) India, the EU and ASEAN are the three main markets for my country’s raw silk exports. my country’s raw silk export market is mainly dominated by Asian countries, and the export market is highly concentrated. With the fiscal plan of the Indian central government in early 2013, it was announced that the import tariff on raw silk would be increased from 5% to 15% to protect the local sericulture and silk reeling industries. Although India is still the largest market for my country’s raw silk exports, its growth rate has begun. Big slide. In the first 11 months of 2013, my country’s exports of raw silk to India were 3,030.1 tons, a decrease of 28.7%, accounting for 49% of my country’s total raw silk exports in the same period; exports to the EU were 1,274.5 tons, an increase of 29.7%, accounting for 20.6; exports to ASEAN were 888.5 tons, an increase of 11.3 %, accounting for 14.4. In addition, raw silk exports to Brazil and the United Arab Emirates grew rapidly during the same period, with export volumes of 86.1 tons and 57.4 tons respectively, with growth rates reaching 1.6 times and 3.6 times respectively.
(4) The exports of private enterprises account for half of my country’s raw silk exports, while the exports of state-owned enterprises have dropped significantly. In the first 11 months of 2013, my country’s private enterprises exported 3,300 tons of raw silk, a decrease of 2.6%, accounting for 53.3% of my country’s total raw silk exports during the same period; state-owned enterprises exported 2,555.2 tons, a decrease of 22.5%, accounting for 41.3%.
(5) Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangxi rank among the top three raw silk exporting provinces (cities) in my country. From a regional perspective, the eastern and western provinces and cities are still the main force in my country’s raw silk exports. Thanks to the “East-to-West” project, silk reeling production capacity in western my country has continued to expand. In the first 11 months of 2013, raw silk export volume was the same as the same period last year, and the performance was good or bad. As a representative of the western provinces and cities, Guangxi’s exports grew against the trend and performed well. The export volume reached 816.4 tons, an increase of 1.2 times, accounting for 13.2% of my country’s total raw silk exports during the same period, becoming the third largest province in my country’s raw silk exports; while the eastern provinces and cities’ raw silk exports Export volume declined to varying degrees. The export volumes of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Guangdong provinces were 1,583.7 tons, 1,150.2 tons, and 774.3 tons respectively, down 16.5%, 22%, and 20.2% respectively, accounting for 56.7% in total.
(6) Mulberry silk is the main variety of raw silk exported by my country. In the first 11 months of 2013, my country exported 5,903.6 tons of mulberry silk, a decrease of 12.2%, accounting for 95.4% of my country’s total raw silk exports during the same period; it exported 283.8 tons of tussah silk, a decrease of 20.2%, accounting for 4.6%. In addition, there are obvious differences in the average export price of different raw silk products.
my country’s raw silk production has a long history. According to preliminary statistics, my country’s cumulative raw silk production in the first 10 months of 2013 was 112,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7%. However, in the first 11 months of 2013, my country’s raw silk exports declined sharply. The main reasons for the decrease in my country’s raw silk export volume and price increase in the first 11 months of 2013:
First, the upside down price of cocoon silk has raised the production costs of silk reeling companies, causing the vast majority of silk reeling companies to suffer serious losses, generally reducing or suspending production, reducing raw silk production, and pushing up export prices, causing many foreign merchants to adopt a wait-and-see attitude; second, export The market is too concentrated, causing any slight policy changes in major importing countries to have a fatal impact on my country’s raw silk exports. The decrease in my country’s raw silk imports from India, the largest market, has restricted the growth of my country’s raw silk exports to a certain extent.
along with”The issuance of the Opinions of the Ministry of Commerce and other eight departments on further promoting the healthy development of the cocoon and silk industry may bring rain to the development of my country’s raw silk industry. However, in order to truly realize the healthy and orderly development of my country’s raw silk industry, relevant departments and enterprises must intensify the implementation of relevant measures to implement the “Opinions”, increase the supervision of the upstream cocoon trading market, standardize the purchasing order, and prevent cocoon dealers from rushing to buy cocoons and pushing up the price of cocoons. price; actively expand new export markets, start with the quality of upstream silkworm cocoons, improve the quality of raw silk, and while ensuring the export of raw silk, help open up a new situation in the downstream silk industry.
