Mexico’s “Financier” recently reported that in 2013, the Mexican garment industry suffered a blow from the decline in garment prices. A total of 200 small and medium-sized garment companies closed down last year.
The Mexican National Chamber of Garment Industry stated that in the past two years, Mexican clothing trade prices have increased by 6% to 10%, while the ex-factory price of ready-made garments has dropped by 7%. This has contributed to the weakness in the garment industry. In addition, large trading chain companies do not support the growth and development of garment industry companies. The Chamber of Commerce believes that if production and trade prices can be coordinated, the garment industry will develop. It is reported that there were 8,500 garment factories in Mexico in 2013, of which 300 were large-scale garment factories and the rest were small and medium-sized enterprises. The Mexican garment industry is plagued by problems. Smuggling, counterfeiting, and counterfeiting have resulted in reduced sales of its products in the local market.
