According to the “Egyptian Gazette” report on January 19, Egypt’s cotton export volume in 2013 dropped by 45.3% compared with the same period in 2012, from 31,137 tons to 17,028 tons, and cotton export revenue also dropped from US$100 million in 2012. to $62.1 million.
According to reports, the main reason for the decline in export volume is the reduction in cotton planting scale, resulting in a decline in output.
After the 2011 revolution, Egypt banned cotton imports, which also helped increase cotton prices in Egypt’s local market.
The main exporters of Egyptian cotton are India, Switzerland, and Germany, which imported 5,400 tons, 2,078 tons, and 1,780 tons respectively.
