Recently, the latest supply and demand data released by the National Commodity Supply Company of Brazil show that in the 2014 cotton season, Brazil is expected to export 540,000 tons of cotton. The company predicts that in the 2014 cotton season, Brazil can plant 920,000 tons of cotton to meet the consumer demand of the domestic textile industry and the international market. Therefore, Brazil will have less pressure to import cotton in the 2014 cotton season. Brazil’s National Commodity Supply Company pointed out that total cotton demand in the 2014 cotton season is expected to reach 1.46 million tons, including domestic consumption and exports.
In October 2013, Brazil’s National Commodity Supply Company predicted that national cotton production would reach 1.67 million tons in the 2013-2014 cotton season, and the cotton planting area would also increase by 16.8% to 22.5%.
In the 2012-2013 cotton season, Brazil’s total cotton output reached 1.3 million tons, a decrease of 31.8% from the 2011-2012 cotton season. The cotton planting area in the 2012-2013 cotton season reached 894,000 hectares, which was 35.9% lower than that in the 2011-2013 cotton season. However, the unit yield in the 2012-2013 cotton season reached 1,444 kg/hectare, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%.
