At the end of 2013, Shri Vallabh Pittie Group, headquartered in Mumbai, India, announced that it would invest US$70 million to build a spinning mill in Sylvania, Georgia, the United States, which will create 250 local jobs. Previously, Alok Industries, another textile factory in Mumbai, stated that it would establish a spinning factory in the southern United States.
Officials responsible for development affairs in South Carolina and Georgia in the United States said that the number of Asian textile companies contacting them has increased since 2013. In September last year, Chinese company JNFibers Inc. agreed to spend $45 million to build a factory in South Carolina to convert waste plastic bottles into polyester fiber for filling pillows and furniture. The investment is expected to bring 318 local jobs.
