Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) calls on international ready-made garment retailers and brands not to require manufacturers to designate any specific raw material and fabric suppliers for procurement , to avoid distortion and restore fair competition in the market.

However, about 40% of raw materials and fabrics are still purchased by retailers and brands through designated methods (especially third countries). BGMEA stated that after four decades of development, Bangladeshi companies have sufficient capabilities to provide almost all necessary raw materials, fabrics and auxiliary materials. In addition, Bangladesh can obtain more local added value in the supply chain, which is very necessary when the country will move from a least developed country to a developing country in 2026.

With the development of the ready-made garment industry, supporting industries including textiles and accessories have also grown significantly in recent decades, and the country is almost self-sufficient in knitted fabrics , plain woven fabrics still have shortcomings. In addition, special accessories and some professional knitted fabrics still need to be strengthened, especially man-made fibers, polyester and synthetic fibers. Due to the need to import, in many cases buyers are accustomed to specifying the source of imported fabrics and accessories, and only have a single choice.

BGMEA also invites international retailers and brands to encourage Bangladeshi suppliers to invest more in professional products. In addition to further reducing costs and delivery times, And provide greater flexibility and intensity for product development and innovation, conducive to the development of the EU market under (GSP) Plus conditions.

30 garment factories in the country will obtain LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in 2022. Currently, there are 183 LEED-certified garment factories in Bangladesh.
