VNA reported in Ho Chi Minh City on December 19 that the 48th Council Meeting and 46th Plenary Meeting of the ASEAN Textile Industry Association (AFTEX) was held in Ho Chi Minh City a few days ago.

Vu Duc Giang, chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) and rotating chairman of the ASEAN Textile Industry Association in 2021-2022, said that in the context of coexisting opportunities and challenges in the global market, The AFTEX business community should continue to establish information channels to introduce the advantages of each country and share mutual support measures to fully tap the advantages of each country.

Wu Dejiang believes that in the future, AFTEX member countries need to cooperate in building a connection chain on fiber, textile, dyeing and sewing, and at the same time share experience among member companies, so as to Expand the AFTEX Group’s textile and apparel market and assist companies in implementing sustainable development and greening plans for the textile and apparel industry.

Representatives of AFTEX member states said that the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been changing consumer trends and demand, while pushing up logistics costs and fuel prices. These factors are also encouraging consumers and manufacturers to shift from “fast fashion” to “sustainable fashion”.

Therefore, representatives of member states put forward a number of cooperation proposals to create a supply chain for the textile and apparel industry.

During the meeting, Vu Duc Giang, chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), handed over the banner of the rotating chairman of AFTEX. to the new rotating chairman of Cambodia Textiles, Clothing, Shoes Tan Kim Teck Albert, President of the Category and Travel Products Association (TAFTAC). Mr. Tan Kim Teck Albert becomes the rotating chairman of AFTEX for the 2023-2024 term.
