On July 1, 2019, the WTO Safeguards Committee released the safeguard notification submitted to it by the Madagascar delegation on June 25, 2019. The Trade Remedy Investigation Agency of Madagascar made a final ruling on safeguard measures against imported blankets (French: Couvertures) and recommended that the products involved be levied additional tariffs (including temporary attachment tariffs) for four years at CIF price. The specific measures are as follows: 1. 41% in the first year, 38% in the second year, 35% in the third year, and 32% in the fourth year. The products involved include electric blankets (tax number 63011000), blankets (tax number 63012000), cotton blankets (tax number 63013000), synthetic fiber blankets (tax number 63014000), and other blankets (tax number 63019000).

Stakeholders should submit comments to Madagascar’s trade remedy investigation agency by email before July 5, 2019. Email address: [email protected], [email protected].

On September 20, 2018, Madagascar’s trade remedy investigation agency launched a safeguard investigation into imported blankets.
