The National Textile Workers Association of Bangladesh said on Sunday that the government should raise the current minimum wage standard before July 27. They believe that the minimum wage should be raised to 5,000 taka per month (about 70 US dollars). Amirul Hoque Amin, chairman of the association, said that as the prices of basic daily necessities and rent are increasing day by day, the current minimum wage standard cannot guarantee the normal life of workers. He also said that raising the minimum wage standard is an effective means to avoid future labor unrest.
